Escape the heat this weekend and head to Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum. The first Saturday of every month, the museum not only waives admission but provides the public with free music, performances, and hands-on art projects. Also, if you’re like me and find it a tedious task to read all of those lengthy descriptions, be sure to take advantage of the museum’s Pop-Up Gallery Talks. Each month staff members choose a few of their favorite pieces and give a short, informative talk providing a more in-depth look at the work’s creation. On the agenda for June’s Target First Saturday: an Afro-Peruvian drum performance, an opportunity to get your hands dirty and create a clay figure inspired by one of the museum’s exhibits, and music from an all-female mariachi band. Quite the eclectic mix.
